How it works

  1. Pick the language you want to check — English, Japanese, Chinese or Korean.
  2. You are asked what a word means. Right answers bring rarer words, wrong ones bring more common words.
  3. It moves up and down around the boundary between what you know and what you do not, showing where your vocabulary starts to break down.

Common questions

Does it count how many words I know?

It looks for the boundary rather than a count. "Where do I stop knowing them" is more useful for choosing what to learn next than "how many do I know".

Will lucky guesses inflate the result?

The test crosses the boundary several times, so one or two lucky guesses are corrected within a few questions.
