Learn words as cards, then immediately say them against a timer. You find out in one go whether what you memorised can actually be retrieved out loud.
Why are memorising and speaking put together?
Recognising a meaning and getting the word out of your mouth are two different abilities. Saying them immediately after learning makes the difference visible at once.
